Creation Narration

Question

The creation story is written in the third person. Since only God was present, who is narrating? Thank you

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for your question.

It is the traditional Jewish belief that the Torah was dictated by God to Moses. Therefore, with Moses writing “the story” it makes sense that he is talking about G-d, and relating the story, in the “third person.”

Furthermore, I will add that from all books of scripture, only Nehemiah and Ezekiel are written in “first person.” There is “third person” found in every other book of the Bible.
