Mouner: Music

Question

Hi, Can an avel listen to music or go to a bbq during lag laoimer? What about chol hamoied? Are there tshuvois on this I can learn?

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for your question!

A mourner, one who is mourning for one’s seven closest relatives, is forbidden to listen to music.

The ban continues for an entire year for one mourning a parent.

As such, a mourner is forbidden to attend Lag Ba’omer celebrations, Simchat Beit Hasho’eva, weddings and the like.

Of course, if there will be no music a mourner can attend a small family BBQ on Lag Ba'omer and the like.

The sefer "Divrei Sofrim" is an excellent reference for you to look at.
