Shalom!
Thank you for your question!
First a word about eulogies.
The hesped, eulogy, is a central, if not primary, component of the funeral service. Delivering a meaningful hesped is an obligation on the children of the deceased or for them to appoint someone to do so on their behalf. We learn about the importance of a eulogy from Avraham Avinu who eulogized his wife Sara on her passing.
The hesped should praise the deceased for his or her good character traits and attributes and arouse a sense of loss and grief among all those present.
In most circumstances a Jewish funeral should actually be brief.
As you correctly note, the funeral service includes the recitation of Psalms, Tehillim, before and/or after the eulogy.
A common chapter of Psalms used for this purpose is chapter 23. In this chapter we read how God “is my Shepherd" reminding us that just as a shepherd looks out for his flock, so too God always looks out for us. It also appropriate for a funeral as it makes mention that, "Even if I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no harm, for You are with me: Your rod and Your staff comfort me" reminding us that God is with us in both the good times and the bad times.
The funeral services will often conclude with the “El Maleh Rachamim” memorial prayer after which time the deceased is taken to burial as various Psalms and readings are recited, each community according to its custom.
