Guidance on Dual Oven Usage

Question

SHalom. I am sefardi and my wife was looking into buying a double oven, one for dairy/pareve and the bottom for meat. Would that be a problem to:1) to have one, 2) to have them operate at the same time?

Answer

Thank you for your question.

There is no problem with having a double oven where the upper will be for dairy and the lower one for meaty. However, when both ovens are used simultaneously, there arises several concerns for example;  the transfer of taste (ta'am) through the shared air space or venting systems, which could potentially bring the flavors of meat into dairy dishes and vice versa. To address this concern, it is advisable to use an oven that has received a Hechsher, or certification from a reputable kashrut authority. A Hechsher on an oven indicates that it has been designed with features to prevent such cross-contamination, adhering to the stringent standards of halacha.

Wishing you much success.
