Checking avocado on shabbat ‌

Question

When you look at avocados, it's impossible to know whether the avocado is ripe or not. The only way to check is to squeeze it a little bit. The question is, is it permitted to check avocados on Shabbos. An unripe avocado is not edible, and therefore it's muktze.

Answer

Shalom,

Your understanding is correct. An unripe avocado is indeed classified as  muktzeh , and moving it on Shabbat is prohibited.

However, if the avocado is visibly soft enough to be considered barely edible, and your intention is solely to check its ripeness and make sure it is completely soft, there is no issue of  muktzeh .
