Conversion with no community nearby ‌

Question

Hello, I have always felt connected to Judaism and recently found out I am ethnically Jewish (we didn’t know because my granddad was adopted shortly after ww2). I really want to start converting but I live rurally in a place with no Jewish population as far as I know. The nearest Synagogue is 5 hours away. How do I begin investigating conversion and beginning a journey to reconnect to my family’s history. Thank you so much.

Answer

It is possible to connect with an Orthodox Jewish community over the phone or online to seek guidance on the conversion process.

However, it is important to note that, at a certain stage of the process, an in-person appearance before the rabbinic court will be necessary. Despite this requirement, the majority of the steps leading up to that point can be conducted remotely.

Good luck.
