Tenant who fell down the stairs

Question

Sholom UBrocho. Thank you for the service you provide. I hope this will give me a better understanding of my halachic obligations. A tenant (in the USA) was walking down the stairs and the step broke. The tenant fell and hurt both wrists and fractured their nose. The tenant had 4 surgeries on their wrists, spent several months going for hand therapy and are still having trouble carrying bags, opening bottles or at times even typing on a computer keyboard. The owner does not seem to have insurance on the property. What is the landlord Halachikly responsible to pay for? Thank you.

Answer

The landlord is not obligated to pay for the damage suffered by the tenant.
