My grandmother's mother is Jewish

Question

I recently discovered on a genealogy site that my maternal great grandmother was a German Jew. She had my grandmother, an only child, who had two daughters, one of whom was my mother. What conclusions can you draw regarding my family's lineage, Rabbi?

Answer

Hello,

According to Jewish law, Judaism is passed down through the mother. Even if the father is not Jewish, the children are Jewish for all purposes.

So in the case that your grandmother's mother was Jewish, both your grandmother and your mother are Jewish, and therefore you are also Jewish.

Of course, the information presented on the website should be verified before drawing conclusions.
