Tying Sukkah's Schach with Zip Ties

Question

Greetings and blessings! I wanted to ask if it is permissible to tie the S'chach (roofing material) of the Sukkah with plastic zip ties. If not, why not?

Answer

Shalom!
If you are securing the S'chach so it does not get blow off the sukkah in a regular wind, ideally, you should refrain from tying it with plastic zip ties, and should tie it with kosher strings for tying S'chach.
If the tying is only needed for an unusually strong wind, it is permitted to use zip ties.
After the fact, in any case, the Sukkah is kosher. Moreover, if you cannot obtain anything else, and there is a concern that the wind will blow away the S'chach, this is considered after the fact.
