Did not sit Shiva before the holiday

Question

If one's father was buried on the eve of Rosh Hashanah and he rent his garment but did not have time to sit Shiva, does he need to complete it now?

Answer

The holiday absolves from Shiva only if one sat for any amount of time before the holiday. Rending the garment has no effect in this matter.
