Covering of the Mezuzah

Question

Is there a point in using a transparent Mezuzah case, or can there be a hole opposite the 'SHaKaY' (G-d’s name that’s written on the outside-facing part of the mezuzah)?

Answer

Greetings,
There is no requirement that the entire Mezuzah be visible. In the words of the Shulchan Aruch: 'it should be placed it in a reed tube', implying that the primary law is that it should be covered.
