Leading the Prayers for Those Who Do Not Observe Commandments
Question
I have been offered to be the prayer leader (Shaliach Tzibbur) this year in a secular congregation on Rosh Hashanah. I am concerned that they may not constitute a minyan (quorum of ten men) and that they may not respond 'Amen' to the Kaddish and the repetition of the Amidah. On the other hand, there is a special significance in leading the prayers during the High Holy Days. What should I do?
Answer
Greetings,
Our esteemed Rabbi has ruled that there is no need to worry, and it is permitted to be the prayer leader (Shaliach Tzibbur) there.
