Eating Pastries in a Meal to Fill Up

Question

I ate a sandwich, and I'm still a bit hungry, and I want to eat two waffles to satisfy my hunger. Do I need to make a blessing 'Creator of various kinds of food' during the meal?

Answer

You do not need to bless it, since it is for satiety.

In the Shulchan Aruch, section Orach Chaim, chapter 168, paragraph 8, it is written regarding rolls, that one should recite the blessing of 'Creator of various kinds of food' before eating them if they’re eaten during a meal. One does not need to recite a blessing after eating them during a meal. And the same applies to “pas ha-ba be-kisanin” (when three conditions are fulfilled). And the Mishnah Berurah wrote there in subsection 41: 'Meaning that he did not eat them to satisfy his hunger but for dessert and sweetness [for if he ate them to fill his hunger, even if he only ate a little, they are included in the meal and do not require a blessing]:' And not like the opinion of Turei Zahav there that differentiates between a lot and a little.
