Driving on a Dirt Road in a Rented Vehicle

Question

Greetings and blessings! I rented a vehicle from someone and drove it on a dirt road with potholes. I should note that this is a road that Waze directs vehicles to. The lessor claims that there was potential damage to the vehicle. Does he have a claim against me? Also, even if he doesn't, is there room to alleviate the concern and compensate him? I would appreciate a response from Rabbi Fried. Thank you very much!

Answer
