Compensation for More Expensive Vacation Due to Cancellation

Question

A few days ago, I asked if it is possible to claim compensation when the owner of a vacation rental cancelled the vacation a few days before, and the Rabbi said that it is not possible to demand compensation. In the end, we booked a vacation in another place that was more expensive. Is this defined as damage that can be claimed? Thank you.

Answer

Shalom!
It is not possible to demand compensation, as this is only “Gramah” — causing damage, and not doing actual damage through direct action. However, you can try to ask him for compensation.
