Compensation for a Mistake in Vacation Booking

Question

We booked a vacation rental (villa) for 3 days in one of the moshavim on a specific date, and we paid in advance. After about a week, we discovered that we booked a wrong date. We informed the property owners that we would not be able to come on the aforementioned date. Our notification was delivered 9 days before the time we had booked. The owner claims that he suffered a significant loss as the place was without vacationers for 2 out of the 3 days. Should compensation be paid, and if so, how much?

Answer

Shalom!
You should pay half of the amount for the days that the property remained empty.
