The onset of labor on Tisha B'Av and Shabbat

Question

A woman is on her 39th week plus 3 days of pregnancy. If contractions begin on Tisha B'Av, is she allowed to bathe in order to alleviate her discomfort, that is, to ease the pain of the contractions? Does she 'need' to drink or does it depend on her feeling? And also regarding Shabbos, can she bathe in hot water if it eases her pain or perhaps only when she decides to go to the hospital are the things that are prohibited of Shabbos permitted to her?

Answer

Shalom!
If significant contractions have begun, she is allowed to bathe on Tisha B'Av, since it’s considered a medical need.
According to the doctors' instructions, she needs to drink and eat so as not to arrive at the point of giving birth weak, something that could delay her progress.
It is permitted to bathe on Shabbat when there are strong contractions, but one should turn on hot water ’with a change’ (in unusual manner).
