Not Feeling Well: Spiritual Connection?

Question

Shalom rabbi , how are you? I wanted to reach out to you and ask you of something. Lately for the longest of while I constantly feel not the best, constantly I feel like I don’t feel good , or something always hurts, I always feel weak , and every check up I get I am fine, there are no physical issues , I believe that it could be something spiritual, and I am reaching out in hope of an answer to what to do, is there something specific I should pray or do?

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for your question.

My first thoughts is to work on the physical. See a doctor. Do some blood work. Examine your diet. And most importantly: be sure to exercise.

Of course, prayer and performance of mitzvot should be concurrent with all the above.

That being said, I hesitate to suggest that it is something spiritual. Although there is mention of both “healing of the soul and healing of the body” there is little material or grounds to suggest that certain spiritual failings could lead to physical ailments.

Again, please be sure to take care of your health as per above, pray, and proper pursuit of both the physical and spiritual track should do the trick!
