Adoption by observant Jews
Question
Please can you let me know if orthodox Jewish people can adopt.
Answer
While there is no inherent prohibition for an observant Jew to adopt a son or daughter, it is crucial to understand that according to Jewish law, adopted children are regarded as strangers rather than relatives. Consequently, certain restrictions are in place. It is forbidden for a man to be secluded with his adopted daughter and to touch her once she reaches the age of three. Similarly, a woman is prohibited from being alone with her adopted son and touching him after he reaches the age of nine.
