Emotions at Holy Places

Question

I live in Israel. Why is it that I find going to the Western Wall in Jerusalem so very emotional? I have done this many times and every time its the same I went up to the Temple Mount. It was emotionally overwhelming. I was fighting back tears. What is happening ? I was not raised as religious. Why is this . Why such strong emotions ?

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for your question.

It is wonderful that you feel a sense of connection and spirituality in holy places, especially at the Western Wall, where it is written that the Divine Presence never departed and is always present. It is also a very special place where prayers are heard.

This shows that you have a special soul. You should take this inspiration and explore your Judaism further. Begin observing mitzvot, and you will discover an even deeper connection and spiritual awakening.

Be sure to connect with an Orthodox Rabbi who can guide you, since not all places on the temple mount is permitted to enter.
