Second Born

Question

Shalom, In my Torah studies I’ve been seeing a pattern of the younger brother receiving Hashem’s Blessings over the firstborn. Has this been discussed at length by Torah scholars?

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for writing.

Yes, indeed, we occasionally see the younger brother receiving more honor and blessings than the older, firstborn brother. This is seen from Cain and Abel, Jacob and Esau, and some of the children of Jacob.

In each story there are different reasons for the emergence of a younger becoming more prominent than an older sibling.

Hence, it is beyond the scope of our response service to engage in an elaborate, general discussion on the issue.
