Seeking Guidance on My Jewish Heritage

Question

Dear Rabbi, My name is Thadeus Thomas Shudark, and I feel a deep spiritual calling from the Almighty to learn more about my Jewish roots. Family stories suggest that some of our ancestors escaped Poland during World War II. My original family name was Shudark, which was changed during immigration; the original spelling was Szudarek. While I understand that tracing this history may be a significant task, I feel a strong pull to explore and understand my heritage, and to connect with the traditions and faith of my ancestors. I would be deeply grateful for any guidance, resources, or advice you could share as I begin this journey. Thank you very much for your time and consideration. With gratitude and respect, Thadeus Thomas Shudark Phone: 362-252-6212 Email: thadeus.shudark@gmail.com

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for writing.

Our website is for questions in ritual law.

Exploring family heritage and roots is not our expertise.

There are kinds of heritage a genealogical websites online that can help you with this.

However, if you want to understand more about your Jewish heritage and customs, you can buy English-translated prayer books at artscroll.com and also look up Aish.com.

wishing you all the best.
