Interpersonal mitzvah
Question
Hi Rabbi. I really appreciate this service and thank you for your time reading my question and responding. I was speaking to someone on "Ask the Rav" and I just wanted to get a second opinion to confirm my understanding. I'm learning about interpersonal mitzvot currently. I asked the question - would simple acts of kindness such as messaging a friend how their week has been/what their family is up to or saying a simple thank you to someone (e.g. at end of a lesson to teacher) be fulfilling a mitzvah - if so which one. "Ask the Rav" responded that yes it is - specifically loving your fellow as yourself and Hakoras hatov as an aspect of loving your fellow . Do you agree?
Answer
Shalom!
Thank you for writing.
I absolutely concur that the response you were given is correct. In fact, the simple acts of kindness you refer to may also be a number of other mitzvot as well such, as "You will do what is good and proper in G-d's eyes" and "You shall emulate G-d (who does acts of kindness)" among others.
Keep up the good work!
