Seeking forgiveness

Question

Shalom! If someone is not sure if he insulted someone but he gave advice what your doing goes against the Torah and he is not sure if it sounded like a insult but he intended to give advice must he seek forgiveness of that person? תוֹדָה!

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for your question.

Based on what you write, it appears that no sin was committed. It appears that you tried to gently rebuke someone for doing something that was against the Torah. When done properly, it is a mitzvah, in fact.

Nevertheless, it couldn’t hurt to tell you friend that you only meant well, and that if your word sounded insulting in any way – that was not the intention.
