Whistling
Question
Is it permitted to whistle?
Answer
Shalom!
Thank you for your question.
The halachic works explicitly state that one is permitted to whistle on Shabbat (OC 338:1). It makes no difference if one whistles with one’s lips alone or if one uses one’s fingers. (Aruch Hashulchan 338:7).
That being said, it should not be a routine manner to attract people’s attention as it is undignified to do so. A Jew must always work to improve his dignity and character traits, especially in the public eye.
