Laundry After Tisha B'av Fast

Question

This year Tisha b’av falls on Sunday. My family decided to leave on vacation on Monday (by car long drive, which means that we will probably leave in the morning). How does it work with laundry, as we are only allowed to wash after Chatzos (on Monday this year), but now we will be on the way. (Also it is clothing that is necessary to be washed)

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for your question.

For Sephardim, doing laundry is permitted right after the fast ends.
For Ashkenazim, Le'Chatchillah, laundry may only be done on the 10th of Av after midday.
However, if someone is traveling and won’t have time later to do the laundry, then he may ask a non-Jew to do the laundry for him immediately after the fast.

If that is not possible, then in a case of need, one is allowed to do laundry after nightfall.
