Shabbat Party

Question

Hi Rabbi! My fiance and I are hosting a wedding where we’re going to have some Jewish guests. It’s an all inclusive preplanned wedding where the first day the dinner is going to be make your own pizzas. My question is- would those Jewish guests feel uncomfortable putting ingredients on premade dough-is that breaking the sabbath? Everyone receives premade dough that they put their ingredients on, and then the staff takes the dough and puts it into the oven for everyone. Please let me know what you think!

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for your question.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

Please understand that hosting a party on Shabbat is incompatible with Jewish law. In fact, cooking and baking are among the most severe violations of Shabbat.

As such, I would recommend a different way to include your Jewish friends. Perhaps a gathering during the week.
