Opening Bones for Feeding Puppies

Question

We provide our puppies with bones, with leftover meat on them. The dog really enjoys it when we open the bones, but it takes some effort. The question is, is it permissible to do so on Shabbos? I emphasize that the dog also manages perfectly fine with bones as they are.

Answer

Greetings,
It is forbidden to exert effort in preparing food for an animal if it can eat other food without any effort on your part.
