Taking merchandise from a truck on Shabbos

Question

I have a factory that produces various food items, and the truck that belongs to my business is parked next to my house. If I need something on Shabbat, am I allowed to open the back door of the truck [using a mechanical lock only] and take merchandise from there?

Answer

Greetings,
It is forbidden to remove merchandise from a truck on Shabbat. However, if it is necessary for a mitzvah-related matter, it is permitted. Regarding guests, if they came from outside the city, it is considered a mitzvah-related need. However, a guest who resides in the city and comes to eat a meal on Shabbat is not considered a mitzvah-related need in this case.
