Pool on Shabbat for Young Children

Question

Is it permissible for Ashkenazim to allow children to swim in a pool with walls on Shabbat?

Answer

Shalom and blessings.

According to the custom of Ashkenazim, it is forbidden to bathe on Shabbat even in cold water for pleasure. It is only permitted when there is a need, such as dirt, etc. The reason is that bathing can lead to several prohibitions.

What is forbidden for adults should not be taught to children to do.

Therefore, there is no permission to allow children to swim in a pool on Shabbat.

The poskim wrote that it is customary not to bathe at all in a river or mikveh, as it can lead to squeezing hair and other reasons.
