Working in a Yeshiva Dining Hall on Yom Tov

Question

Hello,Is it permissible to work on Shavuot in a yeshiva as the person responsible for the kitchen, organizing food for the yeshiva students during the meals at night and during the day? Is there an issue of receiving payment for work on Shabbat and Yom Tov?If there would be an issue, is there a way to circumvent this, such as organizing the kitchen on the erev Yom Tov or after Yom Tov and receiving payment for that work?If it is allowed, is it recommended or should it be avoided, or since it is a yeshiva, there is nothing to worry about?Thank you very much.

Answer

Shalom Rav,

It is forbidden to receive payment for work on Shabbat and Yom Tov.

However, if it is done 'by inclusion', meaning a general payment for work done on both Shabbat and weekdays, it is permitted.

Therefore, your suggestion is correct, to include in the payment also for the work of organizing before or after Shabbat, and then it is permitted.
