Combining Melo Lugmav When the Cup Spilled

Question

If someone made Kiddush on a cup and managed to drink only half of a melo lugmav (the minimum required amount), and then the cup spilled, the halacha would seem to be that he should bring another cup and drink from it (as written in O.C. 271:15). The question is: does he now need to drink a full melo lugmav from the second cup, or is it enough to drink only half a melo lugmav, which would be added to what he already drank from the first cup?

Answer

Shalom uVracha,

If one is able to drink another half revi’is within the time it takes to drink a revi’is from when he drank the first half, then drinking half of a melo lugmav is sufficient. But since this is usually not very practical, one should drink a full revi’is
