Borer - Slotted Spoon

Question

Is it permissible to use a slotted spoon on Shabbat to serve the cholent, ie separating solids from liquids for immediate use, or is it considered borer, since the spoon can do more than what the hand alone can do?

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for your question.

One should not use a slotted spoon as it meant to sperate liquids from solids, a serious violation of “Borer.” So too, it is considered to be a Borer-specific vessel making its use even more serious.
