Shabbat: Tracking Device

Question

Can I wear a whoop fitness tracker on Shabbos? No screen, no phone connection, just collects data and stores on device until I connect back to phone after Shabbos.

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for your question.

One is not permitted to wear such monitoring devices on Shabbat (unless a person has a life-threatening condition which requires constant surveillance and should verify with a Rav).

This is because one causes the device to “work” by recording one's motions, especially since the wearer desires seeing the results and readings.
