Babycare on Shabbos

Question

Regarding babycare for boys on Shabbat Is it preferable to use baby powder? Is it normal for them to prefer the wipes though? Does Judaism condone trying to impose the right thing even like baby powder - even if they are resistant? Does the parent have an obligation to explain it to the boy prior to using the baby powder?

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for your question.

When using baby wipes one should wet/spray the area needed to be cleaned with water first and then wipe it with the wipes. Any other way is forbidden, this includes squeezing out the wipes before Shabbos, and even wipes that states with a hechsher that it is permitted for use on shabbos are forbidden.

It is permitted to sprinkle baby powder on Shabbos.
