The Blessing on Spices in Havdalah

Question

Shalom,If a person on Motzaei Shabbos makes a blessing on a hadas (whose beracha is Borei Atzei Besamim), which blessing should he recite, Minei Besamim or Atzei Besamim?

Answer

Shalom uVracha,

The poskim disagree whether one should recite the blessing that specifically matches those spices, or whether on Motzaei Shabbos one should always say Borei Minei Besamim.

The Mishnah Berurah rules that one should always recite Borei Minei Besamim. However, ideally one should take something whose actual beracha is Minei Besamim, .so that you also cover the opinion of those who disagree.

Among Sephardim, the custom is to say the bracha that’s really meant for that spice.
