Mosquito Killer appliance on Weekdays and Shabbat

Question

Hello Rabbi,Is there a halachic issue with using mosquito-killing devices (with a blue light and an electric grid that traps them)? Both on weekdays and on Shabbat if set up in advance.

Answer

Hello Rabbi

There is no problem using a mosquito killer device, not on weekdays - because there is no prohibition of causing suffering to animals when a person kills them to avoid harm.

Also, on Shabbat, there is no problem using it if the device was turned on before Shabbat, since no work is done on Shabbat itself.
