Gemara Nedarim

Question

Dear Rabbi I have been learning for many years. I am currently doing the daf hashavua program and we are currently learning Nedarim. Both my chavrusa and myself are battling with the Ran, and feel as if we are just reading the words but don’t know what is going on. Do you have any advice for us and should we rather do one of the other meforshim? Many thanks Darren Hollander South Africa

Answer

 Shalom!

 Thank you for your question.

Although I am not familiar with your background and learning goals, here are some suggestions:

If you want to know the Ran and are having trouble understanding it, perhaps approach a seasoned Talmid Chacham and ask him to go through it with you.

If this is not possible, you might want to consider focusing on the Gemara alone, with the pirush of the Rosh on the side of the Gemarah.

Our sages tell us that a person should always learn areas of Torah that one enjoys learning. Hence, you must decide for yourself what you enjoy learning most.
