Lashon Hara for the Purpose of Seeking Advice

Question

It’s very hard for me with one of my family members. I try to live peacefully with him and respect him as much as I can, but I still feel that his behavior is making things very, very difficult for me, and I am worried that it might interfere with my shalom bayit.I want to consult with someone who knows me, so that they can give me the most accurate advice on what to do — but I’m worried about speaking lashon hara, which will likely come up during such a consultation. This person knows my family somewhat. Is it permitted??? In what way could it be allowed???

Answer

Shalom Uv'Racha

It is permitted to consult with hi since you are doing so in order to help you in your situation, even if during the discussion there may be derogatory remarks about the person in question.

Of course, one should minimize the amount of lashon hara and not discuss things that are unrelated to the matter.
