Thank you for your question.
It is forbidden to draw or create pictures of G-d. The third principle of the Jewish faith is that "God has no physical body, and physical concepts don't apply to Him" and hence, there is nothing to draw.
However, as you wrote, one should be careful not to draw or photograph a full human figure, though to darw a half-figure there is room to be lenient, and some when posing for a picture at a wedding for example would hide a hand behind their backs, However, 'Minhag Ha'olam' is not to be strict about this.

Ramban and Ran on Avodah Zarah 43a (quoted in the Taz, Yoreh De’ah 141:12, who writes there that one should not be lenient against the view of the Ramban), Chochmas Adam, Klal 85:8, Teshuvos Maharit vol. 2 siman 35, and Teshuvos Divrei Malkiel vol. 3 siman 58.
However, the Shulchan Aruch (Yoreh De’ah 141:4) rules that the prohibition applies specifically to a protruding (three-dimensional) form, and so it is also explained in Tosafos, Yoma 54b, and is likewise the common custom to be lenient in this matter.
