Honoring Parents in Conflict with Marital Harmony

Question

Hello, if a person's mother tells him that he could have married someone else, how should he respond? On one hand, honoring parents suggests enduring humiliation. On the other hand, should he defend his choice and his wife's honor?

Answer

Hello

A person is obligated to honor his parents even when they hurt him.

However, if this causes a friction in the son's home, the son must tell his mother that he is not willing to hear derogatory remarks about his wife. He should try to say this gently and apologetically.

But if the words are not heeded, it is permissible to protest clearly.
