Unsure if she is considered Shabbat-observant regarding a burial plot
Question
Her mother wants to buy a burial plot, and the seller asked her whether they are secular or Shabbat-observant. She does not know if she is considered Shabbat-observant and she does not want to lie, because she tries to keep Shabbat, but she does not wear a head covering. Thirty years ago, after an accident, she began observing, but she does not keep all 39 melachot; she only refrains from kindling fire and from traveling by car. How is this viewed with regard to being buried among those who are Shabbat-observant? She is in a wheelchair, and sometimes she wrings things out on Shabbat in order to clean herself. Her father sometimes forgets and removes the hotplate and turns off the light. They were given three options: “citizens” (secular), “not observing Torah and mitzvot,” or “Shabbat-observant,” and were told to ask a rabbi which category they belong to.
Answer
To the section of those who are considered Shabbat-observant, since even among those termed “Shabbat-observant” this designation is not completely exact in practice.
