Shortpaid - Too embarrased to ask for the balance

Question

I arranged a technical service for my father in law. I paid the tradesman and sent him the amount to repay me for laying out the money. He accidentally swapped two digits underpaying me just under 1/3 electronically. The money loss is not crippling but is still a reasonable amount of money. Both myself and my wife are too embarrased to request the balance? Is it OK for us to forgive the balance even though he would be willing to pay the remainder? What halochas are involved ?

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for your question.

You are compeltely entited to ask for the shortfall of money. I am sure that you can ask for it in a nice and gentle way that he will be happy to pay it.

Otherwise, yes, you are permitted to forgive the remaining money should you chose to do so.
