Giving Ma'aser in Advance
Question
Can I retroactively give maaser? Like I know I'm going to receive a certain amount eventually but I want to give the maaser now so can I give money now and say it was for the money I'm going to get?
Answer
Shalom!
Thank you for your question.
Although it is better to give Ma'aser when you actually earn the money however if it is easier for you to give in advance then it is permissible, and one should stipulate that it will serve as one’s Ma’aser when one earns the commensurate income.
One who wishes to conduct oneself in this way should state one’s intentions before beginning this routine.
