Tsedaka for Crisis

Question

Rules of tsedaka state to give tsedaka until the emergency situation resolves. How do I make Jewish Federation or temple do this? Temple has helped much but left the emergency lack of housing problem to continue. All housing programs and social services have failed for years. Jewish people should not leave a woman community member homeless and in danger. Prayers or what to do to get needed amount of tsedaka $? USA

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for writing.

We are saddened to hear of your situation. We hope that your financial situation changes for the better.

While you are correct that the poor person should be provided with all his/her needs (Rema, YD 250:1) every charity organization has their policy on how to interpret this requirement as well as other considerations as to how much money they distribute.

You can ask other charitable organizations in your city for assistance as well.

You can pray to G-d that your situation gets better.
