Buying for a lower price after committing to buy at a higher price

Question

Hi.

Someone came to an agreement with an agent who sells “Forever” products, from whom he had previously purchased. They spoke and agreed that he would come the next day and buy. In the meantime, he found another agent who sells at a lower price and bought from her. When he called the first agent to cancel, she claimed that he is undermining the market, and that there are prices set by the company which she is not allowed to lower, and therefore she demands that he buy from her. Is there any validity to her claim?

Answer

Shalom u’vracha.
If he has not paid anything yet, he is not obligated to buy from her. Regarding the claim against the second agent, one must hear both sides and clarify whether the company has conditions that are binding on everyone.
