A Shidduch Suggestion Made by Two Friends
Question
If Friend A asks Friend B: “I’m looking for a match for my niece — she’s like this and that, and she needs such-and-such...” — and gives a detailed description of what kind of person would suit her (without this, Friend B wouldn’t have known who might be appropriate) — and then Friend B suggests: “Maybe Friend C?” (whom both A and B know equally well).
They drop the idea at the time.
Later, Friend A — who knows both sides — realizes it could be a good match, helps move things forward, and the shidduch ends up happening, thank G-d.
A different matchmaker was paid for handling the actual process. However, my question is: Who deserves the fee that is being paid for the original idea?
Should it be split 50/50 — or what exactly is the proper arrangement?
Answer
Shalom,
Our teacher, HaRav Amrom Fried shlit”a, ruled:
The payment should be divided equally — half and half.
