Nail Polish?

Question

Is there any halachic concern or other reason why a woman should refrain from wearing light-colored nail polish?

Answer

Shalom uVracha,

Reason A: Immersing in the mikveh while wearing nail polish is not le’chatchilah. If the polish is chipped or partially removed, it is considered a chatzitzah and invalidates the tevilah. It’s also difficult to ensure that the polish is completely removed each month.

(However, b’dieved, if a woman already has polish on and finds it difficult to remove, one can be lenient as long as the polish is fully intact.)

Reason B: Tzniut; wearing bright or noticeable nail polish is not in line with the modest appearance expected of a bas Yisrael. therefore, all colors are forbidden to use except for clear nail-polish.
