Need Advice: Family Issues
Question
Hello Rabbi, I’ve never done this before so I hope this is ok but I’m feeling puzzled. My husband has a child from a previous relationship. His sons family have been very openly anti Israel online and I am an Israeli citizen and proud Jew and my husband is very supportive and has even considered converting and we have argued with these relatives a few times about this. They were still adamant that we are family at the end of the day even though I feel slighted by their condemnation of my people and disregard for our lives. They have started purchasing us Jewish gifts at random and giving them to us. They bought my husband a yarmulke, they bought us matching Jewish star pajamas a different day, they bought us this giant plastic table cloth another day..It feels weird. It’s so random..It sort of feels like they’re mocking us. What do we do? Do we keep excepting the gifts? Or are we supposed to address them about their intentions?
Answer
Shalom!
Thank you for writing.
It seems that you have a very complex situation here.
You should try and not to take notice of there intentions just go on with your life, however it is important to know that you may only live with a non jew after he has converted so try to reach out to an orthodox rabbi who can guide you on the subject and on how to go forward.
