Permitted Birth Control Methods

Question

Rabbi. Me and my wife don’t want kids yet and we are planning to wait for a year to start a family. I know that i cant use any birth methods as i will be causing wasting of my sperm. She feels very sick when she take the pills cause changes her menstrual cycles and she prefers to insert a DIU (intrauterine device) inside her cervix. Is this method allowed by the law when we have intimacy?? Thank you for your answer!

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for your question.

A married couple has a mitzvah to have children, The Mitsvah Is called 'Pru Urvu". However, if there is a specific reason why you want to delay having children, then you can get back to us and we will ask Harav Fried, Shlita, if for this specific reason one may delay having children, and for how long.
